This saying that Cristiano Ronaldo hasn’t improved Serie A that much since he arrived in Italian football is a harsh one. And there one familiar person who has dared to say those words on Ronaldo’s transfer to the Italian league.
We all can agree that the 35-year old’s arrival at Serie A has been the single most significant achievement in recent Italian football history. Besides, his stats are starting to back that claim when you look at them closely, as results become far greater than before. After all, Italian football has been in a shambles since the infamous 2006 match-fixing scandal that broke out.
Following the incident at the time, Juventus was relegated to Serie B and stripped of the league title that season. Plus the fact that the economic impact it had on many great clubs in the league lasted for more than a decade. Thus, when the news about the five-time Ballon d’Or winner coming to Juventus broke, the stock market in Italy skyrocketed.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo’s transfer to Serie A wasn’t only a brilliant decision from the performance aspect, but also a tactful move from the marketing side of view. The huge investments made by Juventus on Cristiano Ronaldo also paid off for Serie A’s benefit. So, having been in the clear of how much importance Ronaldo’s transfer was to the Italian food, we can now tackle the point made by one of the familiar faces of football in Javier Tebas, La Liga President.
Javier Tebas Claims Ronaldo Hasn’t Improved Serie A Since Joining The League
Here he comes, Javier Tebas has claimed that Serie A hasn’t improved that much despite Ronaldo joining the league two years back. Obviously the La Liga president misses Cristiano Ronaldo in his league, no questions about that. But saying Italian football hasn’t improved on every aspect possible is a crack of a joke!
In his statement reported by Football Italia, Tebas said the following about Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos possibly leaving La Liga before going on to say that Ronaldo hasn’t improved Serie A and that La Liga didn’t miss him:
“Obviously, I don’t want them to leave La Liga, but if that were to happen, we’d all have to give more to take up the slack,” the La Liga chief said.
“Cristiano Ronaldo left, as some haters reminded me on Twitter. I can assure you that nothing has changed for us. To be honest, I don’t think Serie A has improved much either; they barely noticed his arrival. Neymar went to PSG, but Ligue 1 is still only Ligue 1. The La Liga brand and the big clubs that take part are above any individual player, no matter how talented,” he added.
