Gonzalo Higuain Omits Ronaldo In His Top 3 List Of The Current Best Players

Cristiano Ronaldo, who has been in a stellar form and is considered one of the greatest players of all-time, if not one doesn’t even make the current top three or overall top seven for former Real Madrid and Juventus teammate Gonzalo Higuain.

There are only a few select of players who have or have had the pleasure of playing alongside both the modern-day greats in Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Argentina and Former Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Higuain is one of that exclusive group of players, having spent four years with Ronaldo at Real Madrid and almost a decade with Lionel Messi in the Argentina national side.

The Portuguese legend and the Argentina sensation have dominated European football for years-long having scored over 1400 goals and won 64 major trophies & 11 Ballon d’Or awards between them.

Moreover, the impressive duo has kept going strong late in their careers and are still seen as two of the best players in the world at the moment. However, Gonzalo Higuain has a different opinion as to who the current best players in the world right now are. The Inter Miami man neither picked Ronaldo nor Messi when picking his three current best players in the world.

“Currently, for me, the best are [Robert] Lewandowski, [Erling] Haaland, and [Karim] Benzema. Karim has been there for a long time, in the elite for 12 years,” Higuain told ESPN, via AS.

“Lewandowski, where he played, scored and won. Haaland is a great promise, with a great future. He surprised me; he is a great striker.”

Despite Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are considered the two very best players in the history of Football, though, who comes first among the two is still up for debate. However, Gonzalo Higuain doesn’t even consider his former teammates in the top seven of his list of best players in history.

“In history, we have Suarez, Lewandowski, Cavani, Benzema, David Villa, Ibrahimovic,” Higuain added. “And the best one who, ironically speaking, is in heaven: Ronaldo [Nazario]. I always wanted to be Ronaldo; I always wanted to copy him.”
