‘They Look Fantastic!’ – Ronaldo Praises Portugal’s New Kit Ahead Of Their Euro 2016 Title Defense
Cristiano Ronaldo praises Portugal’s new kit ahead of their European title defense, saying they look fantastic!
Nike has recently unveiled the kit that Cristiano Ronaldo and his Portugal teammates will wear as they prepare the defense of their European title next summer. Four years ago, Ronaldo led Portugal to a first-ever international glory in France, beating the host to win the Euro 2016 tournament. Now the veteran forward is preparing for a second shot at European glory come next summer.
The 35-year-old superstar scored a brilliant 14 goals in 10 matches for the Portugal team last year and will also be leading the line for his nation in the upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures against Croatia and Sweden on 5th and 9th, respectively.
Thus, ahead of returning to internatioal games, Nike has unveiled the latest kit for the Portugal national team.
Meanwhile, the new polo-neck home jersey, mainly, is out of the usual. Apart from the apparent collar, the cute shirt has the patriotic red, green, and black trim on its sleeves and collar—likewise, a gold squad number at the back.
Surprisingly, green shorts make a return for the first time since Euro 2004, where a teenage Ronaldo featured as Portugal reached the final but eventually losing out to Greece on their home soil. Then to complete the kit, Nike also included red socks.
However, the away kit looks to be inspired by the Euro 2016 version with three color-blocked horizontal stripes flowing across the entire jersey. To the away kit, Nike added teal shorts and socks to cap off the look.

Ronaldo Praises Portugal’s New Kit
While speaking on the Nike website, Ronaldo praises Portugal’s new kit, citing the return of the green shorts as a nice omen.
“The home, the away, the pre-match all look fantastic,” Ronaldo told the Nike website. “It’s been a while since we had the green shorts so it’s nice to see them back once again. The away, especially, is something really beautiful, really cool.”
In addition, Nike Football Apparel VP, Scott Munson, said: “I think the home is a kit befitting a team of champions, while the away is all about flair, confidence and style — attributes that this team has in abundance.”
Portugal’s new kit demonstrates a combination of the nation’s set of kits during their highest international moments – the home green shorts of the team the came runners up in the Euro 2004 tournament and the away kits donned by its inspiration from the Euro 2016 champions kits.
