Real Madrid forward and Cristiano Ronaldo’s former teammate Karim Benzema has opened up on his relationship with the five-time Ballon d’Or winner. The French forward spoke about playing alongside the Portugal international at Real Madrid and admits he had to change his playing style for Ronaldo to excel.
Among all the stars Cristiano Ronaldo took to the pitch with, Karim Benzema is one of the few the superstar actually had a special relationship with. Benzema’s relationship with Ronaldo was one of the reasons for a successful era for the Spanish giants Real Madrid. Evidence to show for it was Los Blancos winning a historical Champions League treble between 2015-16 and 2017-18 season.

The Frenchman admits that he had to adapt his playing style for his partnership with Cristiano Ronaldo to excel on the pitch.
“Over the years I have changed my game because Cristiano was there to score goals,” Benzema told the Universo Valdano program.
“At Lyon I was going to score goals all the time, but now I touch the ball a lot more first.”
“Because of course, I had a boy next to me who scored like triple the amount of goals I scored, so I had to adapt,” he admitted.
Meanwhile, Karim Benzema has taken the goal-scoring responsibility to his shoulders at Real Madrid since Cristiano Ronaldo departed the club in 2018. The forward had scored a total of 30 goals in the 2018-19 season before finding the back of the net on 27 occasions last season.
