Cristiano Ronaldo Can Play Until 41 Admits Former Man UTD Fitness Coach
Former Manchester United fitness coach admits that only Cristiano Ronaldo can measure up to Man Utd legend Ryan Giggs in terms of longevity. The Portuguese continue to impress and set new benchmarks as he carries on playing at the top-level even at an age widely considered to be the lower years of a footballer’s career.
At 35 years of age, many great footballers have hung their boots, while the surviving ones are plying their trades in far East or retired from international football. But then there is Cristiano Ronaldo, who recently levelled Hungarian legend Ferenc Puskas’ tally of 746 career goals to become the joint fourth-best goalscorer in the history of football.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is known for his intense passion to be the best and he backs it up with a notoriously strict lifestyle so as to keep competing at the highest level and getting the best out of himself even more than the highest prolonged players were able to go.
Before Ronaldo, however, it was his former Manchester United teammate, Ryan Giggs who was described as the epitome of physical fitness. The legendary attacking midfielder capped a mouthwatering 963 appearances in his 24-year-long senior club career before hanging up his boots in 2014 at the age of 40.

Like we all know, it’s no secret that Cristiano Ronaldo wants to play until his 40s, even his Portugal head coach Fernando Santos admitted he has no doubts about that desire. Now, Mick Clegg, who worked as a fitness coach under Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, believes that Cristiano Ronaldo can match Ryan Giggs’ longevity, that Ronaldo can play until 41 even.
“Before Ronaldo, the best athlete in terms of work on his body was Ryan Giggs. He was the strongest, the most attentive to details,” Mick Clegg told Gazzetta dello Sport, via Football Italia.
“If Giggs played at United until he was 40, Ronaldo can play till he is 41. Cristiano was the only one able to go beyond the high standards of Giggs,” ascertains Clegg.
