Juventus loanee Weston McKennie admits he will learn and improve a lot by watching Cristiano Ronaldo, and the youngster is looking forward to playing with the superstar.
At the end of August, Juventus announced that they had signed Weston McKennie from Schalke on a season-long loan with an option to make the deal permanent for an initial fee of around €18.5 million.
The transfer made the 22-year old midfielder become the first US international to sign for the Turin giants.
Meanwhile, Weston McKennie joined the Schalke side in 2016 before making his first-team breakthrough in the 2017-18 season. He already has a total of 91 appearances for the German club, rising to stardom in the process.
McKennie became a subject of interest from a host of high-profile European clubs, including Leicester City and Wolves. However, the USMNT star saw the opportunity of becoming Cristiano Ronaldo’s teammate, an interesting one.
Weston McKennie On Joining Juventus
While speaking in a press conference during his presentation, McKennie discussed the idea of joining the Bianconeri and the prospects of playing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.
“Ronaldo? Playing with him, it’s an honor, seeing what he does during the training sessions, how he moves, and how he works will bring me great benefits,” he said.
“There was no need to convince me to come to Juve because being here is a dream that has become a reality. It’s a big opportunity to be the first American player in the history of Juventus.”
He adds that he’s proud to be pulling on the Juventus shirt as it is an opportunity to bring young talents from America closer to football.
“Having the opportunity to wear this shirt, representing my country, and bringing young Americans closer to football makes me so proud,” said Weston McKennie.
