Ronaldo ‘Super Motivated’ Ahead Of Portugal’s International Fixtures

Portugal head coach Fernando Santos is confident his key star Cristiano Ronaldo will arrive for international duty “super motivated.” It’s only but a week left and Cristiano will turn his attention to international duty with his Portugal side.

As usual, the Juventus hitman was called up in Portugal’s 25-man squad as they begin their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign.

Meanwhile, it has been a tough past few weeks for the 36-year-old, as he was a subject of heavy criticism after his side suffered an early Champions League exit.

Moreover, the Portugal boss recently mentioned Ronaldo’s ambition to lead his side wot World Cup glory in Qatar. And with that in mind, Santos expects Ronaldo to show up “super motivated” for the international duty.

“I’m sure [Cristiano Ronaldo] comes, as always, super motivated. It’s not about scoring more goals or less. I hope he will come with the same ambition that he has always shown, not thinking about personal goals, but in realizing those of the national team,” the Euro 2016 Championship winning coach said.

Apart from collective success as a team, there is indeed a further reason for Cristiano to be super motivated. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is already Europe’s leading international goal-scorer with 102 goals in 168 appearances. Ronaldo needs only eight more strikes to become international football’s all-time leading goal-scorer.

The record is currently held by Iran legend Ali Daei with 109 goals in 149 games. And given the Portuguese captain’s quest for success, it will only be a matter of time before he makes this record his dear own!
