Robert Lewandowski Is Better Than Ronaldo and Messi Claims Bayern Munich Chairman

Bayern Munich chairman Rummenigge has proclaimed Polish and Bavarian striker Robert Lewandowski as the world’s best player ahead of Ronaldo and Messi.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is adamant Robert Lewandowski is better than Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. The Bayern star has had another incredible campaign for Bayern Munich, scoring 41 goals in only 29 Bundesliga games. His goal against Augsburg on Saturday saw him break Gerd Muller’s record for most goals in a single league season.

Robert Lewandowski also comfortably leads the European Golden Shoe standings by a 20-point margin from Lionel Messi.

“He got the FIFA award for the best player in the world, so for me the case is clear,” Bayern Munich chairman Rummenigge told Wirtualna Polska.

“OK, great talents have emerged in world football, such as Kylian Mbappe. Nevertheless, Robert Lewandowski is currently the best footballer in the world.

“In my opinion, he is currently better than Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.”

However, the two-time Ballon d’Or winner wasn’t done as he reflected on Lewandowski’s progress since turning down the likes of Real Madrid to join Bayern Munich in 2014.

“I remember seven years ago, we fought for him,” Rummenigge said on signing Robert Lewandowski from Borussia Dortmund in 2014.

“Yes, it was a fight, a tough fight, because there were many strong competitors, such as Real Madrid.

“Perhaps some, even Robert included, were not convinced that Bayern would win the Champions League, [and help him] be the world’s best scorer.

“But I perfectly remember the scene after our last triumph in Lisbon. Robert was sitting on the pitch next to me.

“He even cried a little with emotion. And it was obvious, he told me how happy he was that he had made his big football dream come true with Bayern.”
