Gianluca Vialli Suggests Ronaldo Is A Worthy Candidate For Ballon d’Or

Former Juventus player Gianluca Vialli suggests that Cristiano Ronaldo could have been an ideal candidate to be the receiving ends of this year’s Ballon d’Or award.

The Serie A MVP for the 2019-20 season was Juventus’, Paulo Dybala. However, stats showed that his teammate Cristiano Ronaldo should probably have been a more deserved recognition.

Having found the back of the net 31 times in 33 league games, Ronaldo was the highest Juventus score in the last campaign as the Italian giants won their ninth successive Serie A title. Lazio forward Ciro Immobile only bettered him on goals tally after finishing as the league’s top scorer with 36 goals.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, was again immense in his Juve side’s run to the Round of 16 of the Champions League, scoring four times across eight games.

Gianluca Vialli Picks His Favorite Ballon d’Or Candidate

Former Juventus attacker, Gianluca Vialli suggests he would have opted for Atlanta’s Alejandro Gomez for the prestigious individual accolade had it not been called off. He also recognized that Ronaldo could also have been his preference too.

While speaking with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Gianluca Vialli said: “[Alejandro Gomez] has improved over the years, he has become a complete player. He makes the quality and quantity to change the games. He solves them, he wins them.”

“Fantastic. But there’s [Lionel] Messi, [Cristiano] Ronaldo, Neymar, [Robert] Lewandowski and you’ll say, oh well, I would award Gomez the Ballon d’Or. But not giving it to any of these is difficult,” added the former Italy international.
