Bruno Fernandes Is Compared To Ronaldo and Cantona By Ex-Manchester United Star
Ex-Manchester United star Darren Fletcher has compared Bruno Fernandes to Cristiano Ronaldo and Cantona in mentality terms. On Tuesday, Fernandes captained United to victory over the determined Paris Saint-Germain side. The playmaker was fortunate to score from the spot following a retake after missing his initial attempt.
The Portuguese saw his initial miss overturned by the VAR and he was ordered to retake the spot-kick after video replays showed Keylor Navas stepped out of his goal-line before the 26-year old struck his spot-kick.
Despite that, it was the second time in as many games that Bruno Fernandes had missed a spot-kick. By nature, Bruno Fernandes would have got caught by nerves at the point of his second attempt from 12 yards. However, the midfielder was able to keep his cool and sent Keylor Navas the opposite direction for his second penalty, all to the star’s credit.
The strong mentality shown by the midfielder in Paris left Darren Fletcher impressed and the former Manchester United man to which he compared Fernandes to his old United teammates Ronaldo and Cantona.

Speaking to BT Sport, Fletcher praised Bruno Fernandes’ mentality for dispatching goalkeeper Keylor Navas during his second penalty attempt.
“It is not a great penalty the first one, it goes too close to the goalkeeper, he goes back to his hop, skips and jump, but credit to him,” he told BT Sport.
“He’s the captain, and that could easily be an Eric Cantona or Cristiano Ronaldo, somebody having that belief in themselves that they missed a penalty at the weekend and missed a penalty there.”
“But there was only one person taking that penalty there, and that was Bruno Fernandes,” added Darren Fletcher.
Paris Saint-German was brought back on level terms following Martial’s own goal. However, Marcus Rashford put the visitors ahead for the second time in the night with just three minutes left on the clock. The win ensured that Manchester United led by Bruno Fernandes in the night went home with the whole three points from the opening game of their Champions League Group H fixture.
Next up for Manchester United and Ole Solskjaer is Chelsea at Old Trafford on Saturday in the Premier League.
