Ronaldo exchange messages with Ali Daei after new record
Ronaldo exchange messages with Ali Daei after he surpassed Ali Daei’s 109 goal haul during the World Cup qualifier match against Ireland.
The Portuguese striker ended Ali Daei’s 17-year reign as the all-time leading goalscorer in men’s international football.
After netting twice in the dramatic comeback win against Ireland, Ronaldo now has scored 111 goals for his national team on international duty. He has received recognition by the World Guinness records for scoring 111 goals in 180 appearances.
Ali Daei took to Instagram to congratulate the rave of the moment, Cristiano Ronaldo, with the following caption:
“Your humility and kindness make you an even greater champion, Cristiano. Long may your record last!” – Ali Daei
However, before Ali Daei’s message, Ronaldo had taken to Instagram just shortly after becoming the all-time leading goalscorer to express his pride in representing his country Portugal and gratitude to his teammates as well as his opponents for the journey so far.

In the long message on IG Ronaldo also paid tribute to Ali Daei with the following words:
“Another reason for me to appreciate this achievement as much as I do right now is because Ali Daei has set the standards at such a high level, that at some point even I started thinking that I might never catch him.
“Congratulations to the ‘Shariar’ for holding the record for so long and thanks for always showing so much respect for me every time I scored and as I became closer and closer to his outstanding number”.
Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo is set to wear the number 7 jersey at Manchester United after Edinson Cavani accepted to give up the shirt and wear the number 21 at Old Trafford.
