Jamaican and Bayer Leverkusen star Leon Bailey has given his take on the old Cristiano Ronaldo vs Lionel Messi debate.
After Cristiano Ronaldo moved to Real Madrid in the summer of 2009, there has been a heated debate on who’s a better play between Ronaldo and Messi. Even after 11 years, the argument is still going strong and so are the two footballing greats.
Despite being in their 30s, Ronaldo and Messi have stayed at the top of their game and had fans and footballers alike buzzing about the duo.
Now the newest take on the Cristiano Ronaldo vs Lionel Messi debate comes from Leverkusen’s Leon Bailey. The young forward has been impressive for the German side this season, finding the back of the net on 11 occasions and also setting up further nine goals in 29 appearances.
Speaking to ESPN, Leon Bailey gave his opinion on an argument that divides football fans all around the world, which is, who’s better; Cristiano or Leo?
” I think [Lionel] Messi has been at one club for too long. The big difference between Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi is Ronaldo has done great things in different teams and that’s what makes him great. Obviously, they are two great players but Ronaldo will always have that upper hand,” the 23-year-old star said.
Although Bailey believes Messi has great talent more than his arch-rival Ronaldo, he will still choose the Portuguese captain every single time.
“I believe Messi is more talented than Ronaldo, but when it comes to more success, I would give that to Ronaldo 100 times,” he added.
Meanwhile, Bailey’s choice leaves us with an interesting thought that relates to Messi’s unknown future. Probably, the Argentinian captain may have to leave Barcelona in order to assert himself as the best football player in the world!
