A narrative was gathering strength that Cristiano Ronaldo made Man United a worse team because he does not press enough.
After the Atalanta game, however, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took issue with such claims.
“Cristiano is great in front of goal,” the Man United head coach told BT Sport.
“If anyone wants to criticize him for effort and work rate just watch this game. Watch how he runs around.”
Cristiano Ronaldo was rewarded for his efforts with the match-winning goal ten minutes before the final whistle.
There’s no doubt now that he’ll start against Liverpool this weekend – with Cristiano in the team, United always stand a chance against any opponent.
After the game as you would expect, the 36-year-old took to social media to celebrate the victory.
His Twitter post reads: “Yes! The Theater Of Dreams is on fire! We are alive! We are Man. United and we never give up! This is Old Trafford!”
Meanwhile, the Portuguese has won three points for Man United for the second Champions League game in a row.
This time, he did not leave it until injury time to score the match-winning goal, finding the net ten minutes before the final whistle instead.
