Cristiano Ronaldo Sends Pele Emotional Message After Smashing His Record

Cristiano Ronaldo has finally acknowledged himself as the greatest goalscorer in football history after surpassing Pele’s unofficial tally. Ronaldo sends Pele emotional message after he smashed the Brazil legend’s record against Cagliari on Sunday and insisted there is much more to come from him after overtaking Pele as the leading goalscorer in world football with the saying “the story is still far from over.”

The Portuguese icon hit a ‘perfect’ hat-trick as Juventus claimed a 3-1 Serie A victory over Cagliari on Sunday. Those goals were his 768th, 769th, and 770th in his illustrious career across all competitions for club and country.

While in January, it was believed the 36-year-old forward had already surpassed Pele’s goal tall when he reached 757 career goals with a brace against Udinese. However, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner chose to remain silent about the record and has only now broken his silence.

“The last few weeks were filled with news and stats considering me the world’s top scorer in football history, overcoming Pele’s 757 official goals,” Cristiano wrote in an Instagram post.

“Although I’m thankful for that recognition, now it’s time for me to explain why I didn’t acknowledge that record until this moment.

“My everlasting and unconditional admiration [for Pele] led me to take into account his 767 scores, assuming his nine goals for Sao Paulo State Team, as well as his single goal for the Brazilian Military Team, as official goals.

“The world has changed since then and football has changed as well, but this doesn’t mean that we can just erase history.

“Now I can’t wait for the next games and challenges! The next records and trophies! Believe me, this story is still far from being over. The future is tomorrow and there’s still a lot to win for Juventus and Portugal!”

Congratulations to Cristiano Ronaldo on his new achievement on the pitch!
